We humans are hypnotized by water.  Rivers are hard-wired directly into my sense of peace:  the sinuous s-curves of a river vanishing into the distance, a stream gurgling while I’m nestled in my sleeping bag, the fresh smell of aerated water at the head of a rapid.   Give me a book to read and a nice day, and chances are I’ll be sitting next to a river.  Give me a camera, and I can entertain myself for hours with anything from a tiny creek to a mile-wide canyon.
